Below is a report on samples from Mobil Oil Company's wells Great Basin #1 and Great Basin #2. Nineteen slides, each containing several samples, were submitted for each well. All samples with identifiable Foraminifera were apparently deposited in a uniform (shallow water, low salinity) environment. All recognizable species are now living in Arctic waters. As I have no evidence of how far back in time the ranges of these species extend, I can give no ages on any of the samples. Great Basin #1. Location - SW1/4NE1/4 sec. 2, T. 27 S., R. 48 W., Ugashik D-4 quad. lat. 57.87942 long. 157.0852. Samples from the interval 250'-4,500' contain species which I connot distinguish from Recent ones. Great Basin #2. Location - NE1/4 sec. 35, T. 25 S., R. 50 W., Seward Meridian. Lat. 57.42599, Long. 157.4051. Samples from the interval 270'-4,040' contain species now living in Arctic waters. Nothing below that is recognizable. |
